When a wart shows up on your foot, it is typically a plantar wart.  While plantar warts are not usually life threatening, they can be quite painful when you walk or stand. Warts On Feet are caused by HPV.  The virus gets in through open or broken skin in the foot and the infection develops.

Warts On Feet are brownish or gray growths on the bottom of the foot that are usually quite hard and may be painful when you touch or push on them.  Foot warts are contagious.  Those with weakened immune systems tend to get plantar warts more easily than those with strong immune systems.

There are many ways to get rid of Warts On Feet.  Here are a few ways for eradicating foot warts.

Home Remedies:  If you are adverse to medical procedures, there are a few things you can use right out of your pantry or kitchen drawer.

  • Duct tape used in conjunction with a pumice stone can be used to irritate the wart which activates your immune system which in turn usually makes the wart fall off.  The downside to this method is that it can be a bit painful and cause scarring.
  • Garlic, a natural antibiotic can be used orally or topically to treat plantar wart growths.
  • Oil of oregano, another natural antibiotic and anti-fungal in gelcap or liquid form (can be taken like garlic).
  • Vinegar is another natural remedy many people use to get rid of a plantar foot wart.

Medical Procedures:

  1. Cryosurgery is an in-office procedure where the growth is frozen resulting in wart cell death.  It is usually quite effective.
  2. Laser-therapy is also an in-office procedure that uses light to burn off the wart and is an effective option.
  3. Salicylic acid is something you can find at your local drug store.  This is another way to activate your immune system in order to get rid of the growth.
  4. Electro-surgery uses electricity to destroy warts.  This in-office procedure is typically performed by a dermatologist where a needle is used to burn the growth with electrical currents.

Warts On Feet should not be left untreated due to their highly contagious nature. You can avoid getting plantar warts by wearing shoes, especially outdoors and in public areas like dorm or gym showers and public pools.

One of the most common types of viral infections on the skin are warts. Warts On Feet generally occur on the sole of the foot, also known as the plantar surface. These type of warts are referred to as plantar warts. They are caused by HPV, a virus known as human papillomavirus. Warts on Feet are not a health issue but due to the location and pressure along with friction, will cause discomfort and pain. They feel like small and grainy bumps at first. If left untreated, they may develop into lumps that are gray or brown.

Warts On Feet are contagious. Plantar warts are spread during contact with wet and moist surfaces. In order to avoid getting these type of warts, one should always wear shoes and not walk barefoot in public places. When using communal showers or changing rooms always wear a pair of flip flops. You should never share shoes or socks with anyone. Direct contact with plantar warts to the skin could cause them to spread so avoid direct contact with the warts. If you are planning on going swimming, always cover the warts with a band-aid.

Treatments for Warts On Feet are performed in a variety of ways, depending on the symptoms and size of the warts. The first line of treatment includes using trichloroacetic or salicyclic acid to peel away the dead surface of the skin cells. Those type of acids are by prescription only and contain a much high concentration than the over-the-counter medications. An injection of antigens known as intralesional can be injected directly into the wart to help it disappear. This would be done in a physician office or clinical setting. Topical ointments such as retinoids and tretinoin cream have also been shown to be effective treatments. One of the most common methods for removing plantar warts is the use of liquid nitrogen. For stubborn Warts On Feet, laser surgery or cauterization may be necessary.

Warts on Feet can occur at any age but are most commonly found on children between the ages of 12 to 16. Risk factors for plantar warts include using public showers, skin trauma to the feet or having a weakened immune system.
